Rita’s Gelati

It was a balmy Wednesday morning, one of those days where I’m dragged by a friend somewhere where I have no choice but to say yes. Tina was squealing with excitement as she gets to replace her old phone. Well, her phone got stolen a few weeks back and is now going to get a new one (with the help of fairy god mother, Karen lol!).

I decided to go with her since I was supposed to be visiting Rita’s Gelati a few months back in Greenhills (yeah, i’m a lazy bitch).

Fast forward… after running around the second floor of V Mall, haggling & purchasing Tina’s new phone, we head for gelati! It wasn’t easy, sure all we had to do was go out of V Mall. But not really, with all the “tiangge” around us, our eyes were in panoramic setting, like kids in a toy store.

Tina and her new phone…

It’s been awhile since I last visited Greenhills as I live in Binondo (again, to lazy), simply put it this way… we got lost inside. Plus, merchandise were distracting us.

After almost an hour, Tina decided to ask for directions (that’s how slow our IQs were that day), then finally! We found Rita’s Gelati!

Rita’s Gelati… seemed like an oasis in the middle of the desert… err.. shopping mall…

Upon entering, ambiance is totally inviting.

If you are familiar with Haagen Dazs’ all glass booth in V-Mall, Rita’s acquired the same spot and same size. Rita’s opened its doors to the public last November 8, 2014.

The staff was accommodating, especially since I had no idea which one to order… everything looked so good.

There are different flavors of Italian ice, some are fruity while some are creamy.

You can have two flavors in a single order. One of the most popular flavor combination is Cotton Candy and Cherry. But I opted for Cherry.

Frozen Custard is like ice cream but is denser because it’s made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar. They have four custard flavors available: Vanilla, Light Vanilla, Chocolate, and Coffee. You can order this in a cup, cone or as a sundae with two toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry.

Gelati~ Best of both worlds in Rita’s signature treat – alternating layers of our famous Italian Ice and Old-Fashioned Frozen Custard.

Misto~A combination of your favorite Italian Ice and creamy Custard blended together. The Misto is a Gelati you can drink with a straw!

All Custard Blendini ~ Old-Fashioned Frozen Custard and a delicious topping blended together.

Milkshake ~Rita’s take on a classic milkshake but richer and creamier – this beverage combines milk and Old-Fashioned Frozen Custard; blended together in a variety of unique flavors, then topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

Frozen Lemonade ~ A combination of Alex’s Lemonade Italian Ice blended with any other Ice flavor of your choice, makes for a refreshing summertime beverage, made with real fruit, perfect for on the go!

This caught my attention though… ice made fresh daily…

Italian ice is not on the same ground as the smooth ice cream or gelato we all imagine. It can be comparable to a smooth ice frozen treat but it still has its distinct identity. Unlike shaved ice, Italian ice is made by the same process as ice cream:  freezing the ingredients while mixing them together, giving the product its unique flavor and smooth consistency. All Ice is served within 36 hours of mixing.

My cherry gelati…. Cherry flavored Italian ice with frozen vanilla custard… the combination was to die for!

I look yuck but oh well…

I am definitely going to be back here with the kids to try other flavors. Rita’s frozen treats aren’t too sweet to make you think you’re eating frozen sugar. They’re just the right blend of creamy, fruity and sweet. You can’t go wrong with that.
